Desert Wildlife

Many of the desert creatures are nocturnal and come out to feed or hunt only in the cool of the night. Others, like jack rabbits, bighorn sheep (photo), and burros are out and about during the day. Jack rabbits often doze in the shade of a tree or bush, and when startled will dash off and disappear. Burros and especially bighorns you will likely see some distance away and their color blends in with the landscape. Best way to spot is with binoculars, scanning rocky outcroppings in the mountain ranges for bighorns and on the desert floor for burros.
